Bellota Blues: Circularity in Commercial Interiors

May 02

Introducing Bellota Blues, a Limited Edition Annex Collection of refurbished chairs and stools that reinforce how true circularity can and should be viable in commercial & residential furnishings.

The problem: The EPA reports that Americans throw away over 12 million tons of furniture and furnishings annually, with 80% ending up in landfills. With restaurant designs typically lasting 2-7 years and corporate interiors caught in the classic 5-10 year refresh, commercial and contract furnishings make up over two-thirds of this waste.

The design industry is caught in a traditional path of take, make and waste. Taking resources from the planet, making products, then trashing them when a renovation is planned.

The solution: For American design & manufacturing company Fyrn, the solution comes in the form of Stemn, their patented components based system of no-glue joinery which enables industry leading durability and as significantly, the ability to repair and refurbish pieces for life after the first use.

Bellota Blues is a limited edition collection of 110 chairs and stools originating from a 2016 custom commission for the Absinthe Group’s Bellota restaurant in San Francisco, CA. After nearly a decade of reliable service, the Absinthe Group decided to embark on a refresh of the space, shifting from the Spanish Bellota to a new concept.

Leveraging Fyrn’s unique system of furniture, the Absinthe Group chose to make a more economical and sustainable choice - refurbishing existing frames and hardware and commissioning new seats and backs for their soon-to-be launched restaurant.

The remaining seats and backs from Bellota - which are the first and only padded chairs in Fyrn’s award-winning Original Stemn Collection profile, have been restored and individually numbered and are now available for purchase on Fyrn’s Annex, a web-shop for seconds, vintage finishes and other uniquely storied pieces.

The Bellota Blues feature rich, full-aniline leather upholstery with a naturally patinaed finish, showcasing the unique scars, pebbling, and shading of the organic material. Cushioned for added comfort, the seats and backs are paired with new frames and  Fyrn’s patented brackets.

Enabled by Fyrn's priopritary system of funiture, Stemn - Bellota Blues, much like the M.Georgina restaurant seating that was given second life at the Retool Head Quarters, represent Fyrn’s unparalleled ability to leverage innovation and services to create a circular product ecosystem.
