Upholstering a Fyrn chair or stool will add a little give to the seat, while providing color and a soft material that complements the strength of the wood and metal. It’s a beautiful way to make a big difference in the aesthetics of your space.

Upholstery is available for all Fyrn seating products. 

For backed chairs and stools, upholstery can be added in one of two configurations. 

You may choose to upholster just the seat while maintaining a wood back that matches the frame. Or, you can opt to upholster both the seat and back. 

When upholstering seats of chairs or stools, the leather is applied to an underlying wood base with 1 /8” of foam between the leather upholstery and wood. 

Upholstered backs do not include the 1/8” layer of foam.

Our standard upholstery offering includes two distinct lines of leather: Signature Natural Leather and Premium Vegetable Tanned Leather. 

Our Signature hides are quality, full-aniline leather that are true to the natural characteristics of the material, retaining unique marks, shading, scars, and slight creases. The leather is chrome tanned, making it soft and pliable from the start, while changing less over time than vegetable tanned leather. It is beautiful, hard-working material that ages well and is ideal for the detailed upholstery process used in our seating. 

Our Premium hides are 100 percent vegetable tanned and full-aniline dyed, creating a beautiful naked leather. This process creates a true representation of the raw material, with all of the inherent characteristics of the leather revealed. The unique tannage provides a luxurious suppleness of hand and the aniline dyes are rich in character. You can expect this leather to age beautifully, softening and changing over time to develop a unique patina. 


We also work with approved lines of UltraFabrics®, a premium synthetic leather alternative.

UltraFabrics materials are similar to what you may find in many luxury cars. They offer a variety of looks and textures that are durable and designed to be easier to maintain. This material will not change as much over time as natural leathers (even if you accidentally spill your drink on the material), and may be a great choice for families with young children.

Within Ultrafabrics, Fyrn offers 3 pre-approved lines for direct material sourcing.

Please note, because Ultrafabrics are not part of our standard offering, this option is considered custom and carries a longer lead time than our standard choices.
